Speculation Is Growing About The Post of PSC Chairman
The BJP had earlier demanded the post of chairman of the Public Service Commission (PSC) of the assembly. They made that demand in writing. The opposition was informed in a letter from the Legislative Assembly Secretariat on Tuesday evening that it was up to the Speaker to decide on the matter. His decision is final. Parliamentary Minister Perth Chatterjee also reiterated that the Speaker would take the final decision in due course. In this situation, the speculation about the chairman of PSC has gained more momentum.
The first choice of the government party to sit at the head of PSC is the newly resigned BJP MLA Mukul Roy. But the BJP, which has demanded the dismissal of Mukulbabu as MLA, is not willing to accept him. They have agreed in the internal discussions of the parliamentary party that if given the responsibility of PSC, they can then give up some demands of other committees. In the midst of this tug-of-war, a parliamentary source indicated that the government could give up the post of PSC chairman to the opposition in accordance with the practice. In that case, Manoj Tigga, Ashok Lahiri and many more are in the running. From the BJP’s point of view, the possibility that Manoj or someone else may be chosen for the top post of the PAC instead of the Leader of the Opposition Shuvendu Adhikari or Ashok Babu is not being ruled out. The deadline for submitting nominations for the election of four committees, including the PSC, is today, Wednesday. In the end, the legislators keep an eye on the direction in which the game with the position turns.
