Pegasus scandal: The Supreme Court will hear the case on Thursday. Allegations of using Israeli spyware Pegasus to eavesdrop on the phones of opposition politicians, journalists, judges and prominent people are against the Narendra Modi government. Multiple petitions have been filed in the apex court. That is going to be the hearing.
National politics has been in turmoil since the Pegasus scandal came to the fore in media reports at home and abroad. Opposition groups called for the beleagured PM to resign, but he refused. Among them, several petitions and public interest petitions have been filed seeking the intervention of the Supreme Court. The first hearing is going to be held on Thursday.
The petitioners in the Supreme Court include journalist N Ram, CPM leader John Britas and lawyer ML Sharma. They have asked the court to direct the center to release information on whether the spyware license was obtained from an Israeli company. Amnesty International’s security lab has confirmed that the forensic report leaked the phone. This needs to be investigated impartially.
