Kolkata: Fear of losing one’s job, hope of reducing infection in one’s face, mixed reaction to the decision to stop the local train at Howrah, Sealdah railway station
The cowardly situation in the state is getting worse. The state government is controlling the movement to handle it. Local train service will be closed from tomorrow. And that is why the commuters are worried. Many are fearing harassment. Many are thinking of losing their livelihood again. However, some passengers say the decision is urgent to reduce corona infections.
A large part of the state travels daily by local train to Rose Office. In that case, the passengers will naturally get in trouble. However, the Chief Minister has directed to start work from home in the private sector. Besides, it has been said to run the office with 50 percent employees in the government sector.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has taken a number of decisions to tackle the growing corona infection in the state. On Wednesday, he was sworn in as chief minister for the third time. After taking the oath, he said that he would give the highest priority to dealing with Corona.
Similarly, Mamata Banerjee held a press conference in Navanne on the same day. He said that the local train will be closed from tomorrow. And that is the problem of the commuters.
In their words, a hasty decision will only increase the problem. Many of the office passengers complained that the office is still open, in which case they will naturally get in trouble if the train stops running.
Besides, since buses and metros are also being cut, buses will also be inadequate from tomorrow. In this situation, the commuters are thinking about how to reach the destination on time.
Commuters traveling via Howrah and Sealdah say, “We will suffer a lot. We will suffer. To save our jobs, we will have to pay 100-150 rupees to travel by bus like last time.”
Someone said, “I travel by train for work. The office is open.” In this situation, many have expressed concern about what will happen if the train is stopped from tomorrow. There is a growing concern among commuters about harassment in travel.
It is to be noted that the increase in corona infection had an impact on train movement. One train worker after another became infected with Corona, reducing the number of trains running on the railways. According to Eastern Railway sources, at least 1,200 workers of the branch have been affected by the corona. Among them, 650 railway workers were infected in Sealdah division. As a result, 54 pairs of local trains were canceled in Sealdah section last Saturday. However, not only trains, but also bus and metro services are being reduced by 50 per cent. All in all, there is a risk of passenger misery.
