Legendary Dilip Kumar Passed Away . He was 98 years old at the time of his death. He died at 7.30 am today. He was admitted to Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai. The death of Dilip Kumar has cast a shadow of mourning over Bollywood.
Dilip Kumar is considered as one of the greatest actors of all time in the history of Hindi cinema. He holds the Guinness Book of World Records for winning the highest number of awards as an Indian actor.
He has received numerous awards throughout his acting career, including 8 Film fare Best Actor Awards and 19 Film fare nominations.
He has been awarded the Film fare Lifetime Achievement Award since 1993 and on 25 January 2015, the Government of India announced that he would be awarded the Padma Bhushan. And it was given to him on the occasion of his birthday on 13 December 2015.
Dilip Kumar was born on 11 December 1922 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan under the name Muhammad Yusuf Khan to a Muslim aristocratic family. His father Lala Golam Sarwar was a fruit trader. Mother’s name is Ayesha Begum.
Dilip Kumar started his primary education from the prestigious Deolia Burns School near Nasik. Late in 1930, he moved to Mumbai with a family of 12 members.
He cast Dilip in the lead role in the 1944 film “Jowar Bhata” and entered the Bollywood industry by starring in the film.
In 1947, opposite “Nur Jahan”, “Jangu” gained wide acclaim at the box office with his first commercially successful film.
Notable among his films are Jogan (1950), Didar (1951), Dag (1952), Devdas (1955), Yehudi (1958) and Madhumati (1958). He played the role of a villain in Mehboob Khan’s “Amar” (1954).
He was the first actor to win a Filmfare Best Actor Award for “Dag” and Devdas appeared before the award again for the film.
He has teamed up with many of the top popular actresses of the time, including Nargis, Kamini Kushal, Mina Kumari, Madhubala and Vaijayanthimala.
